We’ll start at 9.15am with teas/coffees on arrival, followed by a relaxed morning learning the basics in bee keeping which include the life cycle of the honeybee, colony roles (queen, workers, drones), and seasonal hive management.
Throughout the day, you’ll benefit from two complementary beekeeping perspectives. Lauren brings over 10 years of beekeeping experience and is passionate about sharing her knowledge through an enthusiastic, ethical, and hands-on approach to teaching. Along with Simon, who has completed his first year as a beekeeper and is keen to share his experiences as a beginner. His fresh perspective offers valuable insights for those starting out, and he has become an invaluable part of the apiary, helping with the continual building of new hives and assembling and replenishing frames.
Throughout the day we will migrate outside with all bee suits and protective equipment and you’ll get some hands-on experience inspecting frames, lighting a smoker, using a hive tool as well as touching upon swarm control and diseases.
We will try Linnels Farm honey so you can see for yourself why it’s worth the wait.
